Lesson Title: Evolution Jeopardy Review and Unit Test (90 minute Period)

Context of Lesson: Students will have the opportunity to engage in a final review session of lessons (day 1-5) using “Evolution Jeopardy.” This game will be played in teams and the team that scores the most points during the round will receive an extra 3 points added to their test grade. The game of jeopardy will be timed to last no more than 30 minutes allowing a minimum of 45 minutes to complete the unit exam.

Webb 1: Students will be asked to identify and recall various concepts in evolution on the exam
Webb 2: Students will be asked to interpret graphs and identify patterns of evolution on the exam
Webb 3: Students will cite at least four forms of evidence that supports the theory of evolution
Webb 4: Students will be asked to apply the concepts of evolution for predicting future current events

Plans for Differentiating Instruction:
· Any student who was absent for more than 2 class periods will have a two school day extension to take the exam as they must be given the opportunity after school hours to make up any additional work or get instructional notes/extra help for the material he/she missed

Accommodations and modifications:
· Any student with an IEP that includes testing accommodations/modifications will be followed
· Arrangements will be made for students who request additional time given reasonable circumstances
· Any student who is absent will be expected to make up the exam the day the next school day (For every day of absense=days to make up exam)

Environmental factors:
· For classrooms that the tables are clustered into group seating will be asked to separate tables (2 students max at table-each end)
· For classrooms that have varoud table arrangements seating two-students max per table (students will move to either end of table)
· Students will be given two variations of the exam (Same questions-different order of questions)
· Approximately 45 minutes will be allowed for the exam
· Under special circumstances, students will be given extra time to complete the exam

Materials:
· Evolution Jeopardy Power point Presentation
· 5 Fly swatters
· 1 Kitchen Timer
· Smart board
TEST

Objectives: At the end of the class period, students will be able to:
· Refer to individual lesson plans to view the list objectives (culmination of objectives from the lesson squence)

Instruction:

Opening: (5 minutes)
· Greet students as they enter the classroom
· Ask students to take out their homework assignment “Create 3 possible test questions” paper
· Tell students to exchange test questions with another student at the table to the left of them (no one should have their own)
· “Here is a 3 question practice test, answer the questions on the paper you were given and when you are done, give it back to the original person so that it can be graded by them-once it is graded...return it”
· Take Roll as they complete this 3-5 minute exercise
· “How did everyone do? Now is your time to ask questions about anything you need clarification with before we start our review session"
· “Before you start getting stressed out, we are going to take the next 25 minutes or so and play Evolution Jeopardy! This should help prepare even more for the test. It also includes a little bonus...For the team who has the highest score at the end of the round will receive 3 bonus points added to their final grade)

Engagement: (30 minutes timed)

Part 1: Jeopardy Review
· Have students count off 1-5 and repeat until every student is assigned a number
· All the 1’s will be a team, all the 2’s will be a team, and follow the sequence
· Tell students the instructions for the game (Including remove all notes, books from the desk and put it on the side of the clasroom)
· Provide each team with a fly swatter and explain that this will be their buzzer -whoever swats first with have the opportunity to answer the question
· Explain that we will have twenty-five to thirty minutes to play this game so that everyone has plenty of time to take the test. Whose ever team has the highest score when the buzzer goes off will be awarded 3 points to the total score of the exam.
· Play the Game

Part 2: Exam
· Have students separate desks or move to either end of the table
· Explain that each student will have a different version of the exam
· Pass out the tests to the students- tell students that if they have questions to come up to the desk and quietyly ask the question
· “You guys know this material and will do awesome- Good luck”
· “If you are done with your exam early, turn it over and write “What you liked most about the evolution unit and what was your least favorite part accompanied by a picture of a new species you expect to see in the future"

Closure:
· When everyone is completed or the bell rings, ask students to pass in their exams before they leave
· “You guys did a fabulous job and I want you to go rest your brains tonight and I will see you in a few days, Ok”
